Internal medicine
Internal medicine deals with diseases of the internal organs (e.g. heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, intestines, ...), metabolic disorders, tumor diseases, etc. These diseases are usually accompanied by non-specific symptoms such as weight gain or loss, hair loss, loss of physical fitness or increased thirst. The clinical picture is usually not clearly defined and the causes are difficult to identify.
Careful assessment and a precise diagnosis are the basic prerequisites for initiating successful treatment. Changes in blood values in particular provide valuable information for diagnosis.
We have our own in-house laboratory, which enables us to obtain the results of the blood test within 15-20 minutes. An ultrasound machine and a digital X-ray machine are also part of our standard equipment. For special blood tests, we work together with various large laboratories.
Surgery
The Neulinggasse veterinary practice has a well-equipped operating room with inhalation anesthesia and monitoring equipment. Modern anaesthetic management reduces the risk of incidents during surgery.
Dr. Kofler performs many operations himself in the fields of gynaecology (neutering), abdominal surgery and tumour and soft tissue surgery.
We also work with surgical referral practices for special cases.
Dermatology
Dermatology deals with diseases of the skin, which can have various causes. Does your pet suffer from itching? Recurring ear problems? Inflammation of the skin? Hair loss? Constant paw licking? Dandruff and crust formation? Disturbing skin growths?
This can be caused by: Fleas or other parasites, allergies, food intolerances, bacterial skin infections, fungal infections, hormonal skin problems, autoimmune diseases or skin tumors.
We carry out a targeted diagnosis. This is done by taking a detailed medical history, a comprehensive clinical dermatological examination, microscopic examinations, skin biopsies and laboratory tests.
The use of diet food can often help with food intolerance.
Cardiology
The study of heart disease is a branch of internal medicine. A high percentage of dogs develop heart disease in old age.
Early detection is essential for successful treatment. This is why we take great care in the clinical examination during the annual vaccinations. The first signs are often already apparent when listening carefully to the heart. If there is any suspicion, more detailed examinations such as X-rays and cardiac ultrasound are carried out.
Dentistry
Diseases of the gums and dental apparatus are on the rise in veterinary medicine.
Many animals suffer from chronic gum inflammation and tartar build-up, which destroys their teeth in the long term. Unfortunately, one of the reasons for this is the feeding of poor quality food containing sugar and preservatives.
Professional oral cavity restorations and dental treatment can improve the health of our patients, prevent pain and thus improve their quality of life in the long term.
A modern dental clinic is therefore part of our facilities.
As a preventive measure, every dog and cat should undergo a thorough dental examination at least once a year.
Ophthalmology
Ophthalmology has now reached a very high standard in veterinary medicine.
In order to ensure the best possible care for your pet, we work together with an ophthalmology specialist in this field.
Günter Maaß has specialized in ophthalmology in veterinary medicine and has the latest diagnostics and surgical technology at his disposal. He is available in our practice as a consultant doctor - if required and by telephone appointment.

Complementary medicine
Dr. Kofler is convinced of the effectiveness of homeopathy. However, we are not homeopaths, we only use complementary medicine. There are now many herbal products that have found their way into veterinary medicine. In the field of homeopathy, we work together with Dr. Peter Kneifel (Klosterneuburg).
Nutritional advice
There are many questions and myths surrounding the subject of nutrition, and your animals are no exception.
Dr. Kofler has been working intensively for more than 30 years on questions such as: Why does my pet keep having diarrhea or soft feces? What is BARF? Why is there sugar in animal feed? Can I judge the quality of food in the store myself? Can my dog tolerate grain or lactose? What are the effects of colorants and flavor enhancers? Is dry food really unhealthy? Should I cook or use ready-made food? How do I feed my pet species-appropriate food? A lot has changed in the pet food production sector since the 2000s. Medical diet food that is tailored to your pet's particular problem can make a significant contribution to its health. Please make an appointment for a detailed consultation!
A selection of medical feed from various manufacturers is available from us.
Orthopaedics
The musculoskeletal system includes the bones, joints, tendons, muscles and ligaments in the limbs, but also along the spine and in the head area.
A healthy musculoskeletal system is of great importance for pets, as it allows them to live out their species-appropriate movement behavior. They also show joy and sadness through movement and posture.
Depending on the type and age of the animal, typical musculoskeletal disorders can occur. In young animals, impairments of the musculoskeletal system are often due to developmental disorders. Acute processes caused by overloading, sprains, dislocations, contusions or broken bones can occur at any stage of life.
Degenerative processes, especially in the joints, but also in the bones, occur more frequently in older animals. Laser therapy can achieve a great deal, particularly in the case of degenerative disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
